“Many studies have pointed to the dopamine system being important in socialising. Studies on social anxiety have found that maybe less dopamine is being produced or people with social anxiety have less dopamine receptors. There are also experiments on animals and even humans where they’ll purposely decrease dopamine and you’ll see a rise in anxiety and a rise in avoiding other animals or social contact. So it’s clear that the dopamine system is very important cause the dopamine system is the system that is motivating you to go out and seek rewards. The primary rewards for all social animals are of course food and water, but also sex and of course socialising. Maybe addiction-related brain changes are reversed when people give up porn and then they seek out normal rewards such as socialising.”
