Energy Psychology

Energy Psychology (EP) combines established Western approaches to therapy, such as exposure therapy (a researched and established Western approach to treatment) with non-Western, holistic techniques of healing and spiritual development.

Building on conventional therapeutic methods, EP utilises simple methods and techniques from acupressure, yoga, qi gong, and energy medicine to quickly shift the brain’s neural pathways.

As a result, EP can help you to overcome fear, guilt, shame, hurt, anger, and anxiety and enhance your ability to connect, love, and enjoy life.

EP has been proven to be very effective and can help you process trauma, release negative emotions, and change negative limiting beliefs often much faster than conventional therapy can.

If you’ve never heard of Energy psychology, the above is likely to raise your skepticism. It’s going to set off some “bullshit alarms”. That’s OK. Just means you’re not easily fooled.

I was very skeptical myself at first. But I realised that I could only truly know if it was nonsense by trying it out for myself.

And I’m so glad I did because it’s changed my life beyond belief.

Much of the basics of Energy psychology are shared for free online. And using just the basics, you can often already experience the amazing power of it.

It only takes a short time investment to get a potentially life-changing experience that sets you on a path to social confidence. So my strong advice to you would be to give this a try.

At least prove to yourself beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is total nonsense. And you can only do that by trying it out personally, by giving it a committed try.

When you actually do some of the exercises my belief is that, like me, you’ll turn from skeptical into a raving fan.

And, if you find yourself not able to get a result, work with a practitioner of the technique of choice. You’ll have your world rocked.

I say this at the start of the page because for me, Energy psychology has been the difference that made the difference in overcoming my social anxiety.

Once I stumbled unto EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) in 2006 after years of struggling with solely self help and Western psychology approaches (changing thoughts, facing fears, etc.) I had a life-transforming breakthrough.

I share this breakthrough in detail in my story so I won’t go into detail here. But that day I experienced a profound emotional shift.

I went from feeling totally embarrassed and ashamed to completely calm and at peace in just a minute or two.

When this happened I could hardly believe that it actually happened.

Never had I experienced such rapid and deep relief. This was such an empowering and liberating experience that it changed my life. After that I committed myself to using EFT to resolve my social anxiety, and learn as much as I could about it.

As a result of that commitment I’ve now become completely anxiety-free. I used EFT (and other Energy Psychology techniques) and have been anxiety-free for years now, and I’m fortunate to feel relaxed and at ease socially.
I connect with people effortlessly and have a satisfying social life with great friends.

I’ve also been coaching socially anxious people using EFT since 2009, and use various other EP-techniques that are unbelievably effective.

I used to think that myself (that I would have to live with my fears for the rest of my life) as it was my evidence from the real world and it was also true in the psychological and medical profession in the usual sense. And it’s been true for many many years. But, approximately 20 years ago things started to change; a whole new paradigm emerged. In this paradigm, the so-called energy psychology, it turns out that even though when you don’t know exactly how it works, you can actually help three kinds of serious human emotion to minimise and even disappear.

One is most kinds of anxiety. Two is most kinds of fear. Three is most kinds of deep hurt, related especially to trauma. I don’t mean right away, or in one go, or in 10 minutes, but over time the most astounding things can happen to those feelings that have been typically out of reach for other treatments.

Other treatments, which I call outdated, typically are cognitive treatments working in the mind and most people think that’s where the problem lies, but I no longer believe that. I think the problem is not in your mind, I think the problem is in your feelings which is somewhere coded or logged or anchored in your body.

It is a brand-new day when you can actually reduce anxiety fear and hurt without even knowing what caused them because if your body is processing these feelings away from where they are stored. And once they are gone they are gone.

When I found out I could release the fear I could actually not believe it.

This is the reason I actually entered the profession (psychotherapy), to be able to get these kind of results, and for many years I never could, I was amazed. And now that you can get these kind of results I’m equally amazed the most of the profession doesn’t want to know about it!

It is life-changing, the results are very very compelling.

EFT is the most well-known technique of Energy Psychology. It’s a psychological form of acupuncture, but instead of using needles you tap with the tips of your fingers on specific acupressure points on the body.

When you do this while being focused on a problem, the negative emotions (shame, fear, sadness, etc.) connected to the problem are rapidly released.

In laymen’s terms, EFT helps you to rapidly let go of bad feelings.

Now there are more techniques that I’ve personally used and have found extremely beneficial, or flat out life changing, and I’ll describe each below briefly.

Before you go there, I cannot recommend watching the below video enough.

You see EFT Masters help traumatised war veterans who’ve been struggling with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). These have suffered from PTSD for over 20 years, using medication and therapy without result.

Some of these sufferers resolve their long-standing PTSD completely after only 5 days of EFT sessions. Psychologists and psychotherapists comment on it in excitement. On average, they reduced their PTSD with 63%. You can see the change in them on video.

This video made me cry when I saw it (and it still tears me up when I see it, as I recognise where I was and what EFT has done for me).

This video is what initially convinced me to start finding out more about EFT, before I eventually worked with an EFT practitioner and had my world rocked.

Different Energy Psychology Methods

All techniques or methods below are very effective in rapidly releasing negative emotion, getting rid of trauma, neutralising limiting beliefs, overcoming negative patterns of thought, and balancing your body’s energy system (whether you believe you have one or not…).

I have no favourite as I use all of them both personally and in my coaching. They are beneficial in each their own way.

All of them help restore the body’s natural energetic pathways. Sounds very “woowoo” and out there, but you do not have to believe in energy for it to be effective. These techniques are not a placebo. If you do not believe in it, they will still work.

They do need to be applied properly in order for them to be most effective, but often you can experience the power of these techniques already by simply using the basics on your own.

If you’re not getting results on your own get the help of an expert who will help you get results.

When you do this tapping while you simultaneously focus on a “problem” (a bad memory, an upcoming social situation, a difficult person, something that’s bothering you, etc) the negative emotion connected to the problem starts to rapidly release.

I like that with EFT you can address just about any problem that comes up for you, it combines very well with established Western therapies, and you can be laser precise with it. I use EFT in all my inner work and all my coaching sessions.

This is an amazing technique, developed by Dr Bradley Nelson that allows you to release “trapped emotions”; emotional energies that inhabit your body.

I discovered the emotion code in 2011 when living in Thailand. An EFT practitioner said it was “EFT on steroids”. Now I don’t agree with her, I think Emotion code works on a different level, but it’s been life-changing for me. It has been of big help in reconnecting myself with my heart, and feeling my emotions again.

The idea behind the Emotion code from my limited understanding is that going through life, we experience emotions. Some of these become trapped. When negative emotions are trapped in the body they cause all sorts of problems, like anxiety, self-sabotage and so on.

Using muscle testing you can determine the trapped emotions, and with your intention combined with the use of a magnet rolled over your governing acupressure meridian, you can release the trapped emotions easily and quickly.

This technique raised my skepticism the highest, because it’s very out there, and you most people -including myself- only experience the benefits of a session a day or two after it. But it’s very powerful.

Since it’s based on applied kinesiology (muscle testing) it’s best to work with a practitioner, unless you can self-muscle test accurately.

TAT Stands for “Tapas Acupressure Technique”. It’s a technique developed by an acupuncturist (Tapas Fleming) to clear negative emotions and heal past traumas.

During TAT you hold a certain pose while you focus on certain statements (such as for example: “all the places in my mind, body and life where this has been stored are healing now”).

While you do this, the negative emotions and stress are rapidly releasing.

TAT is simple, powerful, and effective and helped me a great deal in releasing painful memories. I like that you do not have to be specific, not much digging in your past necessary.

I’ve only known about this since 2014, but now use it in nearly all of coaching sessions with clients.

It’s a technique whereby you focus on a specific problem (a bad memory, an upcoming social situation, a difficult person, something that’s bothering you, etc) and while doing so you say three statements and simply observe the problem. As you do, these statements release the energy connected to the problem, and restore your personal energy.

For example, one of the statements is “I retrieve all my energy bound up in -this problem- and take it back to the right place in my Self”

This has helped me tremendously, and my clients have benefited from it immensely too. It’s powerful, gentle, and very effective. I interviewed psychotherapist Dr David Lammers, the developer of the method and technique on my podcast show.

PSYCH-K Stands for psychological kinesiology. PSYCH-K allows you to quickly and painlessly change subconscious beliefs that are limiting you.

It’s a muscle testing based technique that works directly with the subconscious mind to install positive, supportive beliefs.

I found this in 2011 and did a workshop in the Netherlands and had my world rocked. I felt the empowerment as I started installing positive supportive beliefs into my subconscious.

With PSYCH-K you use muscle test for a certain belief you want to install. You then sit in a certain position that puts your brain in a “whole brain” state; where the left and right hemisphere are in direct communication with each other. Your brain in now in Delta and Theta brain waves states, a very suggestible state.

As you sit in this position the resistance to the positive belief slowly but surely melts away. Afterwards you muscle test again and see that you’re now believing this positive, supportive belief.

Pranic Healing This is something I’ve discovered only in 2015 and it’s absolutely amazing. While it is very weird, it’s been incredibly powerful for me. I’ve gotten happier, healthier, and more peaceful.

Pranic Healing is a simple yet powerful & effective system of no-touch energy healing. It is based on the fundamental principles that the body is a self-repairing living entity that possesses the ability to heal itself and that the healing process is accelerated by increasing this life force.

During a panic session you simply sit with your eyes closed, and the panic healer will do the healing for you. You’re not being touched, they are literally cleaning up your energy body.

It’s bizarre, but very profound. After a panic session you open your eyes and you cannot help but feel a difference.

It’s amazing, very weird, but very powerful.
