Studies estimate that about 95% of brain activity is subconscious.
Now we tend to think that we are the ones in control. Us being our conscious, logical, problem-solving mind.
But it’s actually the subconscious mind that’s running the show of our lives, most of the time.
And its main goal is your survival.
So if it believes that anxiety is protecting you from judgment, embarrassment, getting hurt and so on…
— it will resist you making this change.
And since the subconscious is in charge of all your bodily systems, your metabolism, energy levels and so on, and 95% of your thoughts are subconscious…
… it easily sabotages your conscious efforts to get rid of your social anxiety.
It will make you feel tired. It will have you believe you cannot change. It will put up blind spots. It will have you work on the wrong things at the wrong time. And so on.
As long as the subconscious believes change is dangerous for you, that social ease will lead to more pain than staying socially anxious, you won’t get there.
You need to get your subconscious onboard. You need your subconscious to believe that being yourself socially is both safe and beneficial for you. Then -and only then- can you become and stay socially at ease.
