Structured Self Help Social Anxiety Advice

It is always important to have an outline of the approach you are going to take in accomplishing a goal.

If you know where you are right now and you know where you are going, you have more confidence in your ability to get there. Because then you can see it as just a journey and yourself being somewhere on the path of that journey.

The social anxiety self help tips below I’ve put down in chronological order. Meaning you take on piece of advice, you master it, and you continue on to the next step.

Step 1: Track your progress

We tend to forget how far we’ve came already when we are working on ourselves. We only focus on our goal and how far we’re still removed from it. Instead, it’s more helpful for your motivation to see how far you’ve came already.

But to find this out, you need to know where you’ve started and you need to measure your results!

I recommend you first take the social anxiety test and note down your score.

Now take the social anxiety self help tips on this page seriously and work on it every single day. Then each month, take the social anxiety test again and measure your results and see how you have improved.

Step 2: Get to know yourself

Or, better said, get to know your brain. Figure out how it works. Go read about the cause of social anxiety disorder and educate yourself.

Then start to learn more and more about how the brain works and realize that you can change your brain.

Learn about the power of belief and about how your irrational beliefs are holding you back.

Step 3: Start with self acceptance
I’m not saying this is the case for you, but it probably is… Most people with social phobia have the feeling of not being worthy enough, not being good enough.

This can have many causes. One big contributor is being a perfectionist.

The fact is, you need to completely accept yourself and your circumstances before you can solve your social phobia.

Until you accept yourself completely, with all your imperfections and weaknesses, you will always be very vulnerable.

Being vulnerable can be great, but this is vulnerability in a way that is NOT serving you in your quest for happiness and fulfillment.

Step 4: Set a clear goal

Having a goal activates your mind to find ways of achieving it. This is an extremely important thing to do!

Simply ask yourself: “What do I want my life to look like when I am free of social anxiety?”

Write it down. Write as much as you can and be as specific and detailed as possible. Make the goal positive and state it in the present tense, as if you have already achieved it.

Now daydream and think about your goal as much as possible. Make it your default thing to think of.

Step 5: Get rid of negative emotions

There are several social anxiety self help tips for achieving this. I recommend you look into overcoming limiting beliefs as irrational, limiting beliefs are causing negative emotions.

And after that I suggest you read about the cure for social anxiety where I talk about Emotional Freedom Technique. A tool that helps you eliminate negative emotions.

Step 6: Get outside your comfort zone

Once you have made some serious progress doing all the inner work on yourself, it’s time to take the next step. To get outside your comfort zone.

This is challenging, but necessary for growth. You want to achieve your goal don’t you?

I know for myself when I had set my goal and I had to get out of my comfort zone, I had a lot of trouble following up on my intentions. I came up with thousands of excuses to postpone, cancel or change my plans.

Until I decided it was time I got over my procrastination issues. I then started to develop some self discipline which in turn made me make spectacular progress in a short period.

If you are a procrastinator without self discipline…

… then work on that! Because without self discipline and always having excuses; you will get nowhere in life.

The work I did on overcoming procrastination and self discipline I still enormously benefit from to this day. It’s a must-have skill for all areas in your life.

Step 7: Create your desired social self

Most likely you don’t have the conversation skills you think you need to build the social life of your dreams. It’s important you start meeting new people a lot so you can rapidly develop and hone your overall social skills.

Have a few conversation starters and have some conversation topics that suit your interests and personality.

Having things down before you start your journey to becoming a socially confident person makes it all that much easier for you. Not knowing things causes anxiety. Knowing what to do releases that anxiety simply because you don’t have to worry about what you are about to do.

The above social anxiety self help advice is not something you read over once and then understand, integrate and master. It requires you to come back over and over again and doing the hard work on yourself.
