Conversation Starters For Every Situation

Become Comfortable Starting A Conversation With Anyone
Part 2/2:

First, the basics. Our goal is to feel at ease using the conversation starters for every situation. To achieve this, I strongly suggest picking one default way to start conversations.

This you will then say to as many people you meet. In as much different places as possible. That’s how I did it.

Having a default way of greeting people and/or opening conversation will help you tremendously when you are trying to become more social.

You now won’t have to think about what you’re going to say, and you will say your conversation starter “automatically”.

This is of course better than not knowing what say, and as a result saying nothing. Or thinking you need to say something special or interesting.

You just commit yourself to saying that one conversation starter and you spit it out to every single person you meet.

Because every time you do say your try to open conversation in that same way, you get more comfortable starting conversations.

And you also get more familiar with the conversation starter that you use.

And this lowers your amount of anxiety of striking up a conversation for you very fast.



The 4 Simple Conversation Starters For Every Situation:


  • Hey, what’s up?
  • Hey, how’s it going?
  • Hey, how are you doing?
  • Hey, how are you?
  • I know, these are very simple...

    ... but they're also very effective!

    My suggestion would be to pick your favorite out of these 4 conversation starters for every situation and use it with everyone you meet. This becomes your own little thingy to say when you meet someone in every situation.

    Own it!


    My default out of the 4 conversation starters for every situation above is “hey, how’s it going?”

    I say that to everyone I meet and to almost everyone I lock eyes with. This you can literally say to anyone in whatever situation you‘re in.

    Plus it gets you comfortable talking to strangers quickly.

    And it works like wonders once you get over your initial anxiety. This is because people see it as something friendly.

    Plus, people can either answer it with a one word answer, give their whole story or even ignore it. Some just nod their head in acknowledgment.

    I now actually don’t care if and how they respond to me anymore. I prefer a positive reaction of course, but a negative reaction has no meaning to me.

    I’ve done it so much that I’ve become indifferent to how people respond. It has just become my way of saying “hello”.

    Plus it has the added benefit that some people will start talking to you. It also makes you appear more friendly and it keeps you in the habit of being social without much effort.
